Aromatic glycidyl ether is a mono-epoxide reactive diluent in which one glycidyl group is bonded to a phenol-derived ring. Yolatech supplies three grades of aromatic glycidyl ether: YLD-6001 (phenyl, CAS 122-60-1), YLD-6002 (o-cresyl, CAS 2210-79-9) and YLD-6004 (4-tert-butylphenyl, CAS 3101-60-8).
Each molecule carries one epoxy group, which reacts into the network instead of migrating out as an unreacted plasticiser would, so the viscosity drop is permanent. The YLD-6001 page states 2–8 mPa·s at 25 °C, low enough to thin a bisphenol A resin of 11000–15000 mPa·s at moderate loading.
With one epoxide per molecule the diluent also acts as a chain terminator, so dosage trades viscosity against crosslink density. The published epoxy equivalent tracks that trade-off: 165–205 g/eq for YLD-6002, 220–250 g/eq for YLD-6004.
Table 1. Values as published on the three product pages; an entry absent from the page is marked not stated. Water is limited to 0.1 % maximum on all three grades.
| Grade | CAS No. | Viscosity, mPa·s at 25 °C | EEW, g/eq | Color, APHA | Hydrolyzable chloride |
| YLD-6001 | 122-60-1 | 2–8 | not stated | max. 50 | not stated |
| YLD-6002 | 2210-79-9 | 4–10 | 165–205 | max. 80 | max. 0.6 % |
| YLD-6004 | 3101-60-8 | 15–35 | 220–250 | max. 60 | max. 0.5 % |
The YLD-6001 page publishes purity (minimum 98 %) instead of an epoxy equivalent. A calculated 150 g/eq follows from C9H10O2, molecular weight 150.17, and one epoxide per molecule; that value is theoretical and should be confirmed against the TDS. Inorganic chlorine is capped at 20 mg/kg on YLD-6002 and YLD-6004.
Dosage is set on the resin side. With YLH-9101 at AHEW 92 g/eq and YLE-128 at EEW 184–190 g/eq, the published recommendation is 48 phr, matching 100 × 92 ÷ 190 = 48.4. A monofunctional diluent shifts the mixed epoxy equivalent, and the dosage follows.
Table 2. Theoretical dosage for 100 parts YLE-128 with 15 parts diluent, calculated as 100 × AHEW ÷ mixed EEW.
| Blend | Mixed EEW, g/eq | YLH-9101, phr |
| YLE-128 alone | 190 | 48 |
| + 15 YLD-6002 | 189 | 49 |
| + 15 YLD-6004 | 195 | 47 |
At 15 phr the cresyl grade leaves dosage essentially unchanged, since its epoxy equivalent sits close to that of the base resin; the tert-butyl grade raises the mixed equivalent and lowers the requirement to 47 phr. A titration on the production batch remains the reference.
YLD-6001 gives the lowest viscosity and the strongest dilution per part, but its page publishes no epoxy equivalent. YLD-6002 pairs fast dilution with an equivalent close to a standard bisphenol A resin, which keeps stoichiometry stable. YLD-6004 has the highest viscosity and equivalent, suiting systems where extractable content matters more than thinning power.
A comparison at 10 and 20 phr on the target resin settles the choice faster than datasheet arithmetic. Sample and TDS requests for this line can be placed through the YLD-6002 grade page.
